my camera disaster

So now that im a photography student I require a selection of cameras, This has ment I needed to get a new film camera, My tutor had recomended I go on ebay (big mistake). I brought a praktica for £38 (I thought this was a great deal). We had a trip to London with the college, This was an opotunity to get some great film pictures for my project, About half way through a roll of film standing on a bridge my camera leaver wont go on (It wont wind on to let me take any more pictures). As the film amiture that I am, I assume its the end of my film. I wind the film up, take it out of the camera and put it in my pocket. I then go to put in a new roll of film and find the leaver still is jammed, I still put in the film and find I still cant take pictures. I place the camera back in my bag and take didgital photos for the rest of the day. The next day I go to my tutor and tell her what has happened and she suggested it was the battery. She took the film out (to find it had ripped and would need some DIY) and placed a new batter in. It still didnt work. I then took it in to town to a few shops to see if they could fix it but they all refered me to the london camera exchange in colchester (i have brought a new camera lense from there before, they are amazing!). So during the week I managed to get to them and had a good old chat with the man. It turns out it is a michanical fault and could not be repaired because the brand is german and doesnt exist any more. He then offered to give me a new camera body for £20 as he felt I got ripped off last time. the lense to my old camera still works so he put the old lense on the new body. I am now the proed owner of a pentax film camera. the old one will be going back!
